Goal setting – the first thing to get right

Before you start any type of training, you need one thing and one thing only. You need to know your destination, you need a goal. This goal may change over time, but if you don’t have it at the start, you can’t plan your journey. And if your journey isn’t planned, you’ll waste time, effort and money.

So get your goal setting right and you will be off to a great start.

Goals should be – sugar daddy sites SMARTER:

  • Specific – A goal must clearly state what you and your coach are trying to achieve
  • Measurable – You need a way of measuring if you have reached you goal. So, getting under 25 minutes for a 10 mile TT is measurable
  • Agreed – Agree you goals with your coach. That way you both know what you’re aiming for
  • Realistic – Setting a goal of winning the Tour de France when you’ve not ridden more than 40 miles is not realistic; completing a 100 mile ride is. Realistic goals must be something you can achieve and achieve in the time allocated
  • Time phased – Give yourself a date by which you will reach your goal
  • Exciting – Pick a goal that excites you. If your goal doesn’t inspire you, you will have little commitment to reaching it
  • Recorded – When you reach your goal, note it down, celebrate it and then set some new goals that will stretch you further
